Redlands Blasts into July 4th!
Community Gears Up for 2008 Celebration

Since 1968, the citizens of Redlands have celebrated Independence Day in classic Americana style. What began as a small-town picnic has now become well-known as one of the best places to celebrate America’s birthday. This year, over 25,000 people are anticipated to join in the town’s festivities! The 4th of July Committee has been working tirelessly throughout the year to plan a fun-filled day for the entire family.

PICNIC AT SYLVAN PARK
Sylvan Park on University Street across from the University of Redlands. Click here for directions. Beginning at 10:00 a.m., Redlands’ annual 4th of July Picnic starts in beautiful Sylvan Park, more than 50 local service and civic clubs will participate, running booths that offer everything from tamales, hot dogs and pizza to cotton candy. Games are available for kids of all ages - even adults like winning prizes! No one can resist a 4th of July T-shirt, only $15.00, which each year features specially designed artwork by a local artist.

Live entertainment will begin at 11 a.m. Listen for “Yankee Doodle” 12:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., when everyone will enjoy the traditional sounds of America, presented by the Redlands Fourth of July Band. At 4:00 p.m., the parade will proceed around the park.

4th OF JULY PARADE
The theme of this year’s parade is Happy Birthday America. Beginning at 4:00 p.m. at Franklin Elementary School, the parade route winds around Sylvan Park. Click here for directions. You will not want to miss seeing the many bands, floats, marching bands and antique cars as they all compete for a gold medal!

FIREWORKS
University Redlands Stadium hosts one of the best fireworks exhibits in the state!

The live show and opening ceremonies will begin at 7:00 p.m. and includes a flag ceremony and jet flyover by a USAF C-17, followed by skydivers from Perris Valley Skydiving, will jump and land in the center of the stadium, starting off the festivities with a bang! The Redlands Fourth of July Band will provide patriotic music, followed by “Vegas-Style Impersonators—Elvis, Cher, and Rod Stewart will be performing! Fireworks begin at approximately 9:00 p.m.

Gates open at 6:00 p.m., with open seating on the field. Live entertainment begins at 7:00 p.m. Be sure to come to this great show – one of the largest 4th of July Celebrations in the State of California.

Fireworks will be presented by Pyro Spectaculars, this Rialto-based pyrotechnics company of national renown, and has produced shoes at Macy’s New York as well as for the Boston Pops, and the Rose Bowl, Olyto mention a few.

OFFICIAL T-SHIRT SALES
T-Shirts for 2008 will be on sale at the City Clerk's Office for $15, and will also be sold at the picnic at Sylvan Park on July 4th.

This year’s shirt features the historic Beverly Ranch/Fiske House, now home to Larry and Char Burgess. The design is from a watercolor by Joseph Stoddard from his Redlands Sketchbook.
