Local Redlands Racers
Andy Padilla is a local racer from Redlands. He is well respected by the racer community as one of the Top dogs for his devotion to hard training as a cyclist and for being a Team player. You can always find him doing the Saturday and Sunday training rides that go from Redlands to Riverside the whole year round. So you can pretty much say that he knows the Redlands course like the back of his hand. Andy has been racing for 7 years in different races in Southern California and Arizona. His strength is racing as a Roady and lately as a Sprinter. This year he is on fire bringing home some extraordinary results. He’s latest accomplishment was first place at the Criterium race in San Dimas Stage Race, which is a NRC/UCI race ranked 4.0.
This year he’ll be riding the Redlands Classic for “Team Six”. He has done the classic back in 2003 and he is looking forward to doing it again. Joining him will be other local racers such as Chris Zukowski, who is racing for Team Kahala-La grange and Roberto Gaggioli racing for Monex.
All of us From Redlands would like to wish Andy and all the local racers good luck!!!!

Since 1985, not too long after the Summer Olympics, the city of Redlands decided to gather a plan and start a professional bike race. The races did not attract many professionals when they were first initiated, since many bicyclists were around the world competing. The first professionals to race in the Redlands Bicycle Classic, included several members of the U.S. team and they were the highlight of the events, taking home all 4 awards. An event that was started in 1985 with a budget of about $14,000 is now an event that has a $55,000 combined budget for both men and women.

The Redlands Bicycle Classic is proud to celebrate 21 years as one of America’s best road stage racing. These races have been the openers for road cycling in the United States and many professionals have followed this tradition. This 4-day event does not only limit its fame to bicyclists in the United States, but many worldwide professionals as well have joined the best in Redlands, California. The race has attracted more people every year for its variety of races, events and terrain. The race is open to everyone in age groups ranging from 3 years old to adults, depending on category. With such an array of competitors, the Redlands Bicycle Classic has attracted many spectators, also making it an atmosphere for family gatherings with great festivities hosted by locals in historic downtown Redlands.
The professional 4-day event races will cover a little over 350 miles, traveling through Redlands, Riverside, Oak Glen and other cities in the county of San Bernardino. The races this year start on Wednesday, March 31st and run through Sunday, April 3rd 2005. Stage 1, for both men and women, will be held on Friday, April 1st. Stage 2 will be held on Saturday, April 2nd, and Stage 3 will be held on Sunday, April 3rd, ending in historic downtown Redlands. The Redlands Bicycle Classic will continue to hold their award for the person who best embodies the values of great sportsmanship in the athleticism arena. First started in 2000 to honor Carole King who helped establish the Redlands Bicycle Classic, it has been the highlight of the awards ceremony.
