Ballet Folklorico Del Pacifico. An exciting music and dance troupe bringing to life the legends, myths, traditions and richness that define Mexico. Co-sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Redlands.
Spirited music, brilliant costumes, and exuberant dancers come to the Redlands Bowl stage as Ballet Folklórico del Pacifico presents its acclaimed program on Friday, July 6, at 8:15 p.m. for the on-going 2001
Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival. The exciting music and dance troupe brings to life the legends, myths, traditions, and richness of Mexico. Filling the stage with 40 dancers and musicians, the professional-quality organization takes the audience on a whirlwind musical and visual tour of Mexico. The dancers have intensive training in classical ballet, modern dance, and Mexican folk dance, and they combine the three genres to create a dynamic and theatrical style of dance.
The choreographies have their foundations in traditional Mexican folk dances, and the wildly colorful costumes are designed to flash and splash with the music and the motions. Recorded authentic Mexican folk music provides the rhythm and the melodies. Headquartered in Los Angeles, the dance troupe was founded in 1992 by José Vences and Adriana A. Gainey who sought to educate a culturally diverse community and provide Hispanic audiences with a forum for developing pride in their own heritage. Ballet Folklórico del Pacifico presents its programs with dual purposes in mind: inspire multi-cultural awareness within the community; and foster an appreciation for Mexican
heritage.
As part of the Children's Festival Workshop schedule, the troupe will present a workshop on Saturday, at 10:00 a.m., at the Redlands Community Center, 111 W. Lugonia Avenue in Redlands.
The program is co-sponsored by Kiwanis Clubs of Redlands. Ron Burgess, co-owner of redlandsweb.com, and Chairman of the Board for Arrowhead Christian Academy, will be the intermission speaker. Redlands Town and Gown and Boy Scouts of America will provide the intermission ushers.
Continuing the tradition begun in 1924, this and all Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival events are open to the public at no charge, and a free-will offering will be collected at intermission.
