The
Tartan of Redlands
One
of the charming qualities of Redlands is that we frequently
see friends and acquaintances when we dine out or shop.
This is especially true at the Tartan. Whether it is at
lunch on their patio or dinner inside, I am always sure
that I will see a friendly face and saying "hi"
to somebody. This is particularly what sets this restaurant
apart from the rest.
The
Tartan has been on the corner of 5th Street and Redlands
Blvd. for decades and has been used as a local landmark
for just as long. But being in one place for a long time
doesnt make a restaurant a local favorite. Its
the combination of the food, the atmosphere of seeing friends
and having a staff that remembers you as an individual patron
often remembering your favorite meal or beverage.
The
Tartans menu is fairly limited but they offer a little
of every thing and do it well. It is traditional American
cuisine. Your order is taken quickly and the food is prepared
just as quickly - a reason that this is a favorite lunch
spot. Their lunch menu is reasonably priced from $3.50 to
$8.75, from salads to sandwiches. Their dinner menu is also
reasonably priced from $4.75 to $12.50. They have dinner
Nightly Specials ranging from $6.25 to $12.50 - each night
has 2 Specials, of which on Friday is the Icelandic Cod,
$6.95, and Shrimp, $7.45, and on Saturday night is the Prime
Rib, $10.00, and there is the extra cut for $12.50.
The
interior is dimly lit which enhances quite conversation
with your dining partners. However, this contrasts with
the open and airy patio. During the warmer days and evenings,
the patio is a great place for dining. While the atmosphere
is casual, all types of attire can feel comfortable there.
The Tartan is truly one of those places that have the All-American
meal, atmosphere and service.
