Fresh
Bread, Anyone?
Café Society isn't your typical
neighborhood bread bakery and sandwich shop. Its 2 entryways,
very large patio dining, windows and ample sized sandwiches
make this an unusual sandwich shop. Even though it's west
of the Redlands Mall, they are still surprisingly close
for lunch during a shopping day, convenient when driving
around downtown or for grabbing a quick bite before or after
the theatre.
Breakfast at Café Society comprises
mostly of croissant combinations (egg & cheese, spinach
feta, various filled, and broccoli, cheese & mushroom),
waffles (Belgian, banana nut, and strawberry), and various
puffs, bagels, Danishes, muffins and, of course, toast using
their fresh baked bread. To go along with these they offer
the full compliment of specialty coffees. I'm very fond
of outdoor dining in Redlands and our great Southern California
climate, and Café Society offers a great place for
an outdoor casual continental-type breakfast.
Lunches comprises of sandwiches made on
their freshly baked bread. Regardless of which you choose,
be aware they are substantial servings - fortunately they
offer half portions. Their menu consists of 13 different
sandwiches with various combinations of meats, cheeses and
vegetables. These cost between $3.25 and $4.95, the half
portions ranging in prices from $2.25 to $3.95. (The sandwiches
come with your choice of either potato salad or a small
bag of chips.) There is also a small fresh salad bar. Depending
on salad size, the prices ranges from $3.25 to $4.75. As
an option to salads, they offer soup specials and each day
of the week a different soup is featured. Soup with 2 slices
of their fresh bread is $3.50 or soup alone is $2.25. Of
course, they offer sandwich and salad, and sandwich and
soup combinations. With a whole sandwich either is $5.99
or with a half sandwich is $4.99. For this review, I visited
for lunch on a super Redlands' sunny day and greatly enjoyed
their patio.
Their breads are baked daily, varieties
include: French, multi-grain, rye, sourdough, honey cracked
wheat, cinnamon raison walnut, cheese, cheese onion and
crusty country. These range in price from $1.20 to $2.95.
All of their baked goods are made onsite each night from
scratch.
Since 1991 Café Society has been serving their ample
sized sandwiches and continental type breakfasts. These
can be enjoyed in one of the few great patio breezeways
in Redlands.
