Redlands Oral History Project
Visions & Versions: Living Lives in the East Valley
is a historical journey through Californias East San
Bernardino Valley as told through photos, documents, and
words of participants in the Redlands Oral History Project
(ROHP). The project was established in 1994 to record life
stories and perspectives from area residents of Mexican
ancestry. Efforts began in 1997 to obtain, preserve, and
present artifacts relating to historic Mexican communities
in the region and to raise public awareness through presentations
of this vital and living history.
ROHP is committed to developing community archives and
cultural initiatives and to producing informational programs
for the general public. Many who come to Southern California
know of its mythic and commercial past, but little about
the people whos lives and work shape our communities
and us as individuals. A major agricultural production area
and transportation hub, the San Bernardino valley drew people
from all over the region and the world seeking different
lives and new visions.
